The Piazza Duomo is a lively place with a number of
bars where you can eat/drink in the square, a drinking fountain and numerous
shops, extending along the road away from the coast. Some evenings they have
music at the bottom of the Duomo steps, the night we were there it was
provided by a jazz band, the sort where you can't figure out the tune.
This is the view to the Duomo from the piazza. We couldn't go into the
church because of a wedding but we did the rest of the tour. |

On the hillside above the church you can see the Torre
dello Ziro, the subject of our next walk. The image on the left is a magnified
view of that section. |

These are the "Cloisters of Paradise". A
very nice colonnaded walk around a square garden. Around the outside are
little alcoves with ancient bits of the church exhibitted. |

The Duomo's bell tower as seen from the cloisters. |

The Piazza leads into an exhibition where all-sorts of
church paraphernalia are displayed in cases. You can also see bits of the
older church building mixed in with the more modern stuff.
The exhibition continues downstairs to a very ornate chapel dedicated to
Saint Andrew the Apostle where they have one of his relicts.
Normally, I think this would have continued into the church but our visit
clashed with a wedding. We could hear the choir from St. Andrew's chapel but
that was as close as we can get. I went to try and see the church later in the
week, but it appears you have to do the whole package and I didn't fancy
paying to go round again. |
